5. More Child Surgeries Project

Background
In Sub-Saharan Africa, millions of children live in extreme poverty, limiting their access to essential healthcare services, including life-saving surgeries. Many children suffer from congenital conditions, injuries, or treatable illnesses that, without timely surgical intervention, lead to lifelong disability or premature death. Poverty exacerbates this crisis as families often lack the financial resources for basic medical care, let alone specialized surgical procedures.
In rural and impoverished areas, few healthcare facilities are available, and access to skilled surgeons is limited. As a result, treatable conditions such as cleft palate, clubfoot, and hernias remain unaddressed, causing unnecessary suffering. Additionally, inadequate access to post-operative care and rehabilitation reduces the effectiveness of surgical interventions.
Addressing this gap is crucial for improving children’s long-term health and development outcomes. Surgical interventions not only save lives but also enhance a child’s ability to participate in education and future economic opportunities.
MoreChildSurgeries under Child Surgeries Tanzania Foundation (CSTF) supported more than 900 children until the end of September 2024. Its expected to exceed 1000 children by end of November 2024. All these children are operated at Selian Hospital and very few like 20 were referred to Zonal and national hospitals for further treatment.
With the support from our donors we will be able to support a maximum of 300 children annually.
